After a slow start to the winter in December and January, February was filled with powder, fresh tracks, and avalanche education for the backcountry program. The Mini Mountaineers team got rolling, and we even had one senior athlete compete in a backcountry skiing or rando race.

Mid December marked the start of on snow training for the 4 Month Backcountry program.  Throughout the season this team will be climbing up Snow King after school on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The JHSC 4 Month Backcountry Program, and Mini Mountaineers are ready and excited for another great season!  Well kick off on December 7th, for the 4 Month Program.

That's a wrap! Another wonderful season in the books for the JHSC Backcountry Program. Both the Mini Mountaineers and the 4-Month Program are finished with regular training.

Backcountry got into full swing during the month of February! We now have both the Mini Mountaineers and the 4-month program going. The Minis are just getting going, and the 4 Month program is working on avalanche classes.

For the next couple of newsletters, we will be highlighting athletes and showcasing their own write ups of the month.  

This month we have Niamh Keating, telling us about the team's annual Montana Hut Trip. Thank you Niamh!

The Backcountry Program is up and running!  The 4-month team officially kicked off the season at Snow King on December 1st. We have a big team this year with 20 athletes. Every member puts in hard work at practice twice a week after school, skinning up Snow King and working on touring skills.
