March 17th Grooming Report
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
An army of leprechauns descended upon Trail Creek and rolled out tens of thousands of snowballs sometime during the night. The fields are literally covered with snow balls up to the size of basketballs. Seriously speaking, it appears as if a combination of soft warm snow, and howling winds conspired to actually start pieces of snow rolling across the terrain, getting quite large before finally becoming heavy enough to stop moving. You do have to look closely to see them in the image above as the light is pretty flat today, but it is really a bizarre landscape.

Shifting gears, congratulations to our Junior National Racers pictured above for helping Intermountain Division to claim the first place team position in the nation! Coach Luna reported, “This week at Junior Nationals, Intermountain won the overall team title for the first time since 2007. This success belongs to our WHOLE team- we train and race in the strongest division in the country right now. Thank you ALL for being part of this team.” All the results are available at the Muddy Dog Sports website.
Back to cleaning up the leprechaun damage, the Husky had a big job ahead of it today with a foot of heavy snow falling over the weekend along with all of our snowballs. On top of that the wind dropped a tree last night on Moose Poop, but the Husky fearlessly ventured out and managed to create lots of great skiing. Grooming began with a single skate/classic pass through the woods which was followed by multiple passes with fresh classic tracks in the fields. The Close Field received some new routing in preparation for the upcoming International Spring Series Races beginning March 29th. All the information and courses are on the website.
Finally this is the last week of practice for most of the programs. Spring break begins next week so while there will surely be JHSC skiers around, it’s looking like most formal practice sessions at Trail Creek will be over by Thursday this week. The season has just flow by.
Groomer’s choice for today is to do something Irish.
