Alpine Program Update: Read about what each of our teams learned and achieved last month

FIS

The FIS Team has been very busy tailoring their schedule to racing around the West in order to lower points and get experience at different venues. In March, the team is moving into championship events and spring races around the country. Several members just got back from a speed series in Schweitzer, Idaho, where the team as a whole did incredibly well! Mattias Wilson won two races as a first year FIS athlete and teammate Atticus Sanders joined him on the podium twice! Congratulations boys! Next week, coach Kevin Keane, New Hampshire native, will take Avery MacMillan, Mattias Wilson, and Atticus Sanders to U18 Nationals at Mittersill, NH, while closer to home, Head Coach Brett Jacobson will take the rest of the squad down to Colorado to Beaver Creek and Copper for a few tech events! Big Congratulations to Mattias Wilson on qualifying for US Nationals at Sun Valley at the end of March as a first year FIS!

U16

The U16 team has traveled to Bogus Basin for Super Gs and Sun Valley for Tech races to round out the qualifiers for the season this past month. As a team, they had several impressive results and most athletes will be heading back to Sun Valley for U16 Regionals in March. They have been training and racing hard to get ready for championship season!

At Bogus Basin, Oliver Sanders came away with a win while several of his teammates—Liam Logan, Jaden D’Amours, and Taylor Moe—all landed themselves in the top 5!

At Sun Valley, Taylor Moe and Lucy Wirth both found themselves at the top of the podium in the Giant Slaloms! Oliver Sanders took a 4th place, and Taylor Moe was the overall female winner for the weekend!

Attending U16 Regionals: Taylor Moe, Lucy Wirth, Dylan Witherite, Oliver Sanders, Jaden D’Amours, Joey McNamara, Liam Logan, and Teddy Peightal will all be heading back to Sun Valley in a couple weeks!

Attending Tri-Divisional Championships: Nico Tozzi, Cash Warren, Madeline Ryan, and Neve Pruzan will all compete at Grand Targhee!

Best of luck to all the athletes! U16 Nationals will take place at Mission Ridge, Washington, for athletes who place high enough at Sun Valley.

U14

The U14s will be traveling down to Park City, Utah, for their final tech qualifiers of the season this weekend! The results of Park City will be the last to determine if kids qualify for U14 Regionals at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort at the end of March. The team got back from Super Gs at Brundage one week ago and came home with some hardware: Taryn Moe with a 2nd place finish and Charlie Lighthart with a 3rd!

U12

The U12s have been training hard and having tons of fun at the village on the weekends! This year has provided us with an abundant supply of fresh snow and the kids are taking advantage of it. This past weekend, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort hosted a stubby slalom Club Series Race, and our U12, U10 & U8 athletes were a blast to watch! Shout out to brothers Will & Sam Lynch for dressing up as the Cookie Monster and a pickle while still finding their way onto the podium!

The U12s & U10s are sending a handful of kids each to Tamarack, Idaho, for a GS and Kombie race this coming weekend, March 4-5. IMD Championships, which are always a ton of fun, will be held at Snowbird, Utah, March 17-19! The athletes will each race a slalom, a GS, and a Kombie race. At this series they will race against not only the North Series competitors but also the South Series athletes. It makes for a wider field of competitors then the kids normally see.

Let’s go have a fun, safe, and successful March! Best of luck to all of our student-athletes and make sure to get out to the local events and cheer on our junior racers!
