December 14th Grooming Report

IMD Opener, High Plains JNQ, & WY High School Race Day 2!

At 9:00 AM today the second of three fantastic days of Nordic racing begins!  Today’s venue is the 2.5 K course featured in the map below. Racers will be skiing, 4 laps, 2 laps, 2K, or 1 K venues in today’s race; it is once again a fantastic opportunity to race or to watch some great Nordic racing.  Important information points for racers and spectators are as follows:

  • There will be very little parking at Trail Creek.  Shuttle buses are running between Stilson and Trail Creek from 7:30am-5:30pm. All racers, spectators, families, siblings, friends, grandparents, fans, please use the shuttle.
  • Start lists and results are at this Zone 4 webpage
  • Today’s Betty Woolsey Race has been switched to freestyle because of the current snow conditions.  Registration has closed.
  • Course maps and more information is available at the JHSC event page.
  • The course is closed to skiing by the public all day today, however recreational skiers can recreate on the forest trails via the end of the Old Pass Road.

Since today’s race is the Betty Woolsey Race, we have to give a shout out to the local skiing legend Betty Woolsey.  You can read her bio and learn of her connection to the Trail Creek Nordic Center on this JHSC Hall of Fame page.

Grooming for today’s race happened last night; even though there were thousands of skier laps yesterday, the thin snow held up quite well.  There was one emergency yesterday when something started coming up out of the tracks, but it turned out to only be a wayward pile of horse apples which the race crew were quickly able to obliterate.

The forecast is still calling for lots of snow heading our way between this morning and late Sunday night.  The current hourly forecast is now calling for 19 inches which will be fantastic and exciting.  The tentative grooming plan for tomorrow’s final day of racing is a Ginzu buff after today’s racing finishes up with a Husky grooming early in the morning.  System wide grooming will return Monday morning.

Groomer’s choice for today is to enjoy the race.
