January 31st Grooming Report

It’s Looking Like a Doozy!

The image above is a kml download which opens on google earth, showing a high resolution image of the estimated precipitation for the next 168 hours from this really “cool for weather geeks” Weather Prediction Center web page.  What it is showing is that we’re going to get a bunch of snow over the next week.  Adding up those totals from the hourly forecast page for the Trail Creek location, the sum is currently sitting at 46.2 inches; it should be a fun week!

As of report time, it has mostly clouded up with a temperature of 10ºF after beginning the day with an impressively ruddy slightly sub-zero sunrise; snow is not expected to begin until late in the afternoon.  Today’s grooming began with a venture through the woods, setting most of the classic tracks along the way, covering most every trail in the woods and making double passes on Moose Loop and Animal Farm.  The next item on the agenda was multiple passes through the fields with mostly fresh double classic tracks, results were all favorable.

It’s been quite busy already this morning with numerous citizen skiers on the course, the snow is lovely today and if you want a fast ski, today is your day!  Skiing will be great of course in the days to come, however while it is incredibly beautiful to be out in a huge dump, fresh snow is always a bit slower.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.
