Intro:

September! The air is getting colder and the days are getting shorter. Fresh snow caps the peaks of the mountains surrounding Jackson Hole. As the leaves changes and fall, winter is getting closer and closer! Freeride drylands start TODAY (9/30). Before we know it, we’ll be riding our first lifts of the season. Now is the time to break those skis out of storage, throw some wax on them, and make sure all of your equipment is dialed for the upcoming season. If anyone has gear questions, please feel free to reach out to myself or the rest of the coaching staff.

During September, we hosted a tuning clinic, sponsor me night, and an internal club swap in collaboration with the alpine team. We had season finales of Mountain Bike and Skate Competition series. Lastly, we had our industry night, where reps from leading brands came to town in order to get our team fitted for the upcoming season.

We’ve still got limited availability for all programs, if you know anybody interested in signing up, please send them our way.

This newsletter contains a recap of what happened with Freeride this September, as well as what’s coming up during the month of October.

  1. September Recap

Wild West Skate Series Finals:

The Wild West Skate Series Finale was held on Sept. 8th at our home park here in Jackson.

After a slight re-shuffling of things, the WIld West Skate Series is back and stronger than ever. The series included events stretching from Riverton to Driggs, and participants traveled from near and far to try their luck at a chance for cash and glory. Prize money gave the skaters some extra motivation and because of that each contest was well attended by the region's skateboarders. Among the regulars atop the podium was none other than the Freeride Program's very own Bennett Hultman. Bennett competed in a few open class events, bringing home plenty of cash and enough points to put him on the podium for the series overall champions along with fellow locals Andy Skinner and Chris Banks. It was a great summer of skating for all of those involved. We look forward to the continued success of this event and the skating community here out west.” - Stephen Merriam

Thanks to our friends at Carving the Future for leading the charge on this great community resource.

Congrats to Bennet Hultman for his 3rd place finish in the Open class!

Rendezvous Enduro:

The annual Rendezvous Enduro was held  at JHMR over Labor day weekend. Mountain Bikers take advantage of the whole mountain with this 5 stage Enduro, which starts off the top of the tram. Thanks to the Montana Enduro Series and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort for putting on such a fun event!

Arguably the best bike race in Jackson, the Rendezvous Enduro was a race the Bike Team could not miss. Racing from the top of the tram is an amazing experience. As a stop of the Montana Enduro series, this race attracts all levels of riders including current World Cup racers. We had an amazing experience and are looking forward to for years to come!” - Matt Newton

Congrats to Lucien Weiseman for his 7th place finish!

JH Downhill Championships Finals:

The final stop of the JH Downhill Championships was an awesome way to end the season. Lucien Wiesman ended up second in the race and first in the 13-15 overall standings. The first year of the series was a great success and we are excited to see it grow in the future.” - Matt Newton

Again, thanks to Jackson Hole Mountain resort for putting on such fun events for our down-hill community.

TGR Premiere:

Our friends at Teton Gravity Research premiered their winter film on 9/14 in the Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village. JHSC Freeride was in attendance with a booth and pair of skis from Atomic to raffle!

Thanks to all who came out and supported the kids!
