March 14th Grooming Report

Nothing but Sunshine!

The heat and sun are moving in with endless blue skies and warm breezes the rule today at Trail Creek.  While conditions were a bit icy first thing this morning, the snow has softened nicely and you’ll be able to find some great skiing today.  For about the first time this year, some early morning skiers were even able to take advantage of some crust cruising in the fields today; this will only get better in the days ahead.

Another great day of racing yesterday at Junior Nationals; lots of impressive finishes with Luna Poduska finishing second in the classic sprint.  Looks like no racing today with racing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Those IMD racers that aren’t in New York will be heading to Soldier Hollow tomorrow for the final IMD event of the year, the Western Club Championships.

Today’s Husky grooming made at least a single pass on every trail, resetting classic tracks where needed along the way.  The fields and Moose Loop received multiple passes with fresh classic tracks.  Some of the early morning grooming was coming up a bit chunky but should ski fine in the warming conditions.  Look for shortened grooming session Friday morning then switching to evening grooming Friday evening until the weather changes.

We’re entering the season where watching the sun and temp can be the difference between an ice field, slush field, or an absolutely fantastic ski.  It can be a bit challenging, but also very rewarding and it is kind of nice to see the sun and warmth returning.

Groomer’s choice for today is to check out "best of the season" and probably not around for long Super Faceplant.
