November 21st Grooming Report
Garbage Moose?!
While garbage bears are definitely a problem as their dependence on human food often time leads to their demise, moose however are perhaps not quite the same case. A sight never before observed happened this morning when old number 20 was teaching her calf that there were tasty vittles to be had in the brush pile outside the cabin. They didn’t do any real damage, probably didn’t develop any bad habits, and possibly even kept a little CO2 out of atmosphere. Number 20 and her bull calf promise to be a central part of the Nordic experience at Trail Creek this winter.
Part of today’s Nordic experience was a cold start this morning with temps beginning in the low single digits. Grooming for the next week will be earlier in the morning than usual as the practice schedule has changed around the Thanksgiving Holiday. In past years the teams have travelled to West Yellowstone Ski Festival this week, the pandemic however has changed plans this year. While some activities are still going on at West Yellowstone, Coach Will is conducting a stay at home camp for our skiers over the next week with practices on most mornings at 8:30 AM.
If you are looking for your own Covid-free outing today, you should still be able to find plenty of skiing at Trail Creek. Today’s grooming was with the Ginzu groomer and was mostly a best line skate grooming on the currently groomed trails which are most trails except for the East Fields and the Black Hole/Boiler area. There are some OK classic tracks in the close field but not many elsewhere.
Skiing is fast and pretty good for pre-Thanksgiving Nordic skiing. You should have no problem finding your workout today.
Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.
