March 4th Grooming Report

Spring Skiing!

It took a while but spring skiing conditions have finally arrived at Trail Creek, that time of year when skiing can go from a sheet of ice to the best ever to a slush fest in short order.  As of 11:15 AM the temperature is already up to 4ºC/39ºF with a gentle breeze and partly cloudy sky.  Thanks to Coach Sevi for the great shot from a few days ago!

Today’s Ginzu grooming covered all major trails with multiple passes.  Grooming began in the woods which were much softer early in the day.  Most woods trails received fresh classic tracks and skate grooming.  As conditions warmed grooming switched to the fields.  Classic tracks are a bit variable but skating is quite nice as of report time.  To see a pretty cool video of a Ginzu Groomer in action, click on the image below.

Our resident elk are getting friendlier as the winter progresses.  They allowed some pretty close encounters this morning in Woolsey Woods.  Total ungulate counts for the day are near the 20 head.

In days ahead pick your trail by the time of the day; fields will probably be icy early on but really nice midday while woods will ski better throughout the day, but might never get that perfect window like the fields will do at the right time.

Groomer’s choice for today is Black Hole.
