Summer Training Heats Up!

School is out and our summer training group has been putting in serious work these last few weeks!  We have seen great attendance and enrollment in summer programs so far, with 42 athletes already signed up for summer or year-round programming!  These athletes run the gamut from college-age PG athletes to middle schoolers who are just learning to rollerski for the first time!  In particular, we have had really high attendance from our Prep Team crew of rising 9th and 10th graders.  We have 16 athletes signed up for the Prep Team currently, and 2 more joining in the winter, which is the largest it has ever been.  Many of these athletes have been showing up very consistently this whole summer at all practices from distance to intervals to strength training.   I am stoked to see what the future holds for this crew!

Good crew on the Rock at Phelps

Otherwise we have already had loads of great training including climbing to the top of JHMR, doing our first test week, running to Phelps Lake and jumping off the rock, double pole intervals up the Fish Hatchery Hill, starting our first period of weight lifting and core, and much more!  These kids are doing great and while they may be sore now it is all good practice for later on in the summer, later this fall, and eventually for the winter!  As they say...skiers are made in the summer!  I think with how these athletes are training they will have a great winter season on skis.

JHSC Skiers at REG

Beneath the falls

This past week six of our JHSC athletes were back in Bend, Oregon for the Western Regional Elite Group (REG) camp!  Selection to this trip is a big honor and only 15 athletes from across the west are taken based on winter results.  This year Lucas Wilmot, Nate Streubel, Abby Murphy, Peter Warner, Lena Poduska, and Aurora Stiles all qualified to take part.  This was the most athletes qualified from any one club in the entire western US!  They have spent the week being coached by great coaches from all over the region and making friends with skiers from the Rocky, Intermountain, Far West, Pacific Northwest, and High Plains divisions.  Training has included a double pole Time Trial, a skate ski time trial, runs up Lava Butte and to Tumalo Falls, technique work, and tons of other high quality workouts.  It looks like they have been having a blast and making new friends with athletes from all over the West!  Congrats to all! We will be stoked to have them all back in Jackson training with us again.

All smiles and having fun at REG!

Registration Opens Soon

Believe it or not, registration for the 2024-25 winter season is almost here already!  We are going to open up registration for RETURNING FAMILIES on July 15th this year!  This means if you were a part of the program last year you will get an early opportunity to register and secure a spot.  New family registration will open on the normal date of August 1.  This applies to all teams including Lollipoppers, Teewinots, Devos, and Juniors.  If you are interested in the Prep or Comp Teams as well as summer training opportunities for Juniors, registration is currently open and you can sign up anytime.  Mark it on your calendars and make sure to register on July 15th!

Masters Skiing Next Season

Over the past few years our Master's program has grown significantly and has experienced increasing interest annually.  This winter, the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard club will be offering the Nordic community an expanded adult ski education program.  In addition to the traditional Thursday mid-day program we are offering a new, "under the lights race training.” Sessions will be at the Middle School Track and will focus on race technique and training. Also, for parents, we are bringing ski instruction to you! JHSC is offering a short series of lessons during the normal kids training time. Drop off your kiddos, grab your skis, and join us for an hour lesson during which you can learn the same techniques that the teams are practicing. If you are hoping to keep up with your kids, this will help! Look for registration for all three programs to begin in the fall.  Approximate times and schedule can be found below:
