January 27th Grooming Report
First Place Finishes!
IMD racing continues today in Utah at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center but so far yesterday Nate Streubel and Aurora Stiles won their respective U20 & U18 male and female categories, way to go! All the results are available at Zone 4 Timing (download the csv for an easier to view format) and you can still watch the racing live with the Soldier Hollow web cam.
Talking about the upcoming weather, the current forecast indicates we have a few very warm and sunny days coming our way with grooming possibly altering subtly to accommodate this short term way above normal condition. Looking at our snow pack from the Phillips Bench Snotel reporting station, while we have moved out of the recent record low conditions, we still are pretty much on the short side.
Good news is on the horizon however, the 6-10 day forecast while remaining warm is forecasting substantial precipitation and the 8-14 day is looking to be every Nordic skier's dream, cold and snowy! We should be able to ski fine through the mini warm up and hopefully bases will build ensuring a long and wonderful cross country ski season soon.
Today’s grooming at Trail Creek was Husky driven and covered pretty much every trail. The formula for the day was to raise or lower the classic track setter depending on which technique would serve the greater good. Multiple passes were made through the Close Field. All in all, no matter your technique or where you want to go, you should find some pretty nice skiing today.
Groomer’s choice for today is for the JHSC skiers to go fast at Soldier Hollow.
