January 25th Grooming Report
Gathering of the Masters!
As the morning's grooming session was wrapping up, the Nordic Master Ski Class was gathering at Trail Creek for the first time this year after beginning the season at the Teton Pines. Many more than pictured above streamed onto the trails for a delightful session skating (today’s venue) around our lovely trails. Look for them on Thursdays for today and the following four weeks.
At the other end of the spectrum we have the never ending energy of our younger skiers. Many thanks to Coach Kaya for sending in a picture of the Devos skiing during yesterday’s afternoon session. The image below of the Colter Winter Sports skiers getting ready to ski mid-day yesterday shows another aspect of what goes into bringing Nordic to the community, that community ranging from the smallest skiers to people who may have been skiing for decades.
Since yesterday’s grooming we’ve received a heavy dusting of snow with warm temps continuing; hovering right around freezing as of report time. The Husky was the grooming tool of the day and in its mission, it covered nearly every trail. With the Nordic Masters using the skating technique today, priority in the woods was given to the skate lanes with the lightly dusted but mostly pristine classic tracks being left untouched where possible. In the fields multiple passes occurred with freshly set classic tracks.
The bit of fresh snow, warm temps, and fresh grooming all come together to make for a grand day to Nordic ski!
Many of our JHSC skiers are off to the second Junior National Qualifier in Soldier Hollow today, tomorrow, and Saturday which should result in lighter afternoon skiing pressure today and tomorrow.
Groomer’s choice for today is Armin’s.
