How Are We Doing?!

Snow wise that is, the image above was taken this morning near the old boiler right beside the trail.  While 42 inches of snow is a pretty impressive depth, you might ask how does that stacks up to historical averages?  Glad that you should ask; looking at the image below you see that the Snake River Basin is currently sitting at 88% of average which although slightly below average, still puts us in a “normal year” range.  Phillips Bench which is the closest monitoring point to Trail Creek is at 90% as of today.  42 inches of snow is plenty for some really good Nordic Skiing.

If you are looking for some good Nordic skiing today you should come on out to Trail Creek.  Of those 42 inches, about 6 came overnight in a very dry form.  While the dry flow able nature of last night’s snow did slow grooming somewhat, every major trail except for Homesite, Suicide, and Animal Farm received double passes.  It was an unusually beautiful morning today with more or less a clean slate in the fields as shown below due to some pretty good winds overnight.

As of 12:15 the winds have picked up again to the light to moderate range, the sky is mostly sunny, and it is a warm -3ºC/27ºF temperature.  Groomer’s choice for today is Woolsey Woods.
