January 20th Grooming Report
You’ve Got to Love This!
A perfect blue sky, pristine white snow, and majestic mountain peaks are dominating the scene here today at Trail Creek making for yet another great day for a Nordic ski! Sure, the temp is maybe a bit chilly in the mid-teens, but with no wind and endless sunshine, it is nothing but very nice.
If you are lucky enough to make it out today, you will probably find plenty of trails all to yourself as the youth teams are either done for the week, or off to Soldier Hollow, Utah to race. If you would like to follow results of the racing at the Olympic venue in Utah, Summit Timing is posting times as they happen.
Speaking of racing, don’t forget that those of us not racing in Utah are welcome to head over the hill for the Spud Chase on Saturday which is a great annual event sponsored by TVTAP.
Today’s Husky grooming on the stable snow conditions we have been experiencing was mainly a single pass through all the trails, dropping fresh classic tracks where needed. The snow is firm if perhaps just a bit slow in the cooler conditions, but skiers can pretty much go anywhere with any technique and find lots of good skiing.
Finally a pretty cool animal sighting today; five grouse were busily foraging in the Animal Farm area today. Their camouflage makes them difficult to see, but four of the five did line up pretty well for the image below.
Groomer’s choice for today is the East Fields.
