January 20th Grooming Report
Coldest Day of the Year!
As of report time the temperature has warmed to a still rather chilly -7ºF after starting much further in the negative range earlier today. Quite possibly this will be the coldest day of the year as the forecast going forward is much more benign with the temps reaching the upper 20’s and a chance of snow by Friday, things will only get better after today!
The word is still out on the total practice schedule for today as the temperature is supposed to reach -4 in order to practice, but skier traffic will be light no matter what as the Prep/Comp and Junior skiers have the day off after a great weekend of racing in Soldier Hollow. The call was made last night that our youngest skiers (the Lollipoppers) have the day off as well due to the cool conditions. Looking ahead on the schedule, a great citizen race is coming up over the hill on Saturday, the Spud Chase.
While the Husky was a bit uncertain whether it wanted to start or not today, it came through for us with flying colors and proceeded to produce some positive results. Even though the snow was very cold, we did pick up around an inch of fresh snow yesterday which groomed out nicely. The Close Field and Moose Loop received multiple passes with fresh classic tracks, the East Fields mostly received skate grooming, and the woods trails received a skate/classic track today.
It wasn’t too cold for a cow moose to be very contentedly trimming the aspens in the Aspen Bump this morning; she seemed to be really enjoying the calories and might stick around all day, who knows.
Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop with lots of layers.
