January 14th Grooming Report
Grinding Snow!
The trusty Pisten Bully was once again hard at it, converting hundreds of tons of powder into Nordic ski trails. Since yesterday’s grooming 8-12 inches of additional snow has fallen; as of 12:45 the pass is closed, the wind is moderate, snow is falling moderately, the temperature is -5ºC/25ºF, and Wilson Winter Sports has cancelled for the day as there is too much snow…go figure? I suppose getting that big yellow bus up here could be a bit of a challenge.
Surprisingly, the trails have been a bit on the busy side here today with some hardy skiers coming out to enjoy winter’s bounty. Today’s extended grooming was bit of a mixed bag in hopes of getting ahead of the ongoing storm. All woods trails received a single (mostly skate/classic) Pisten Bully pass although Moose Loop did receive double passes. As the image above shows, the depth has gotten substantial in the past few days. The fields received extensive grooming in preparation for the upcoming races. Even skaters should be able to make good to perhaps a little more rustic progress on the trails today as the hardy skiers below have already demonstrated.
Coming up Thursday will be course inspection day, and Friday and Saturday the courses will be closed for the races. One more item to put on your agenda is the upcoming Spud Chase just over the hill in Idaho. This fun race will be happening on January 25th.
Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.
