January 13th Grooming Report

JNQ #1 Soldier Hollow Week!

This is a very important week for our IMD skiers as many will make the journey to near Heber City, Utah where at the Soldier Hollow Nordic area the first of three Junior National Qualifiers will take place next weekend.  At this event skiers will accumulate points that will ultimately enable them to attend Junior Nationals in March which are also being held at Soldier Hollow this year.  Racing in the upcoming weekend will mainly be for Competition skiers, Prep skiers, and Junior skiers.  Traffic at Trail Creek will thus be lighter than usual on Thursday and Friday this week.

It’s always an important week for skiing at Trail Creek and today you will discover lots of Husky grooming.  While the morning started out rather benign with partly cloudy calm conditions, all of a sudden the ridge tops darkened, the wind picked up, and we’ve had a bit of a mini blizzard this morning.  Snow accumulation has been pretty inconsequential so far although the fields have been drifting a bit.

The Husky did make multiple passes through the fields and mostly a single pass through the woods today, resetting classic tracks where needed and in the narrower sections.  Temps are a moderate 19ºF as of report time.  Skiing might be a bit slow today, but all in all quite nice if you can avoid the wind.

Groomer’s choice for today is Woolsey Woods.
