January 11th Grooming Report--More and More and More Snow!

January 11th Grooming Report

More and More and More Snow!

Since yesterday’s grooming another half foot plus has fallen at Trail Creek, keeping things very fresh, if a little on the soft side.  The percentage of normal for the year at our local snow reporting station Phillips Bench has risen to 123% as of today.  The map below is a USDA map of snow percentages for much of the west; you can view it in more detail at this link.  Some of the lucky or unlucky, depending on your perspective, basins in California are around 250-300 percent of normal for the year, what a series of storms they’ve been having.

Here at Trail Creek we get a reprieve from the snow for a few days with some really warm temps coming our way then more snow over the weekend.  As of report time it is still snowing moderately with a bit of wind moving a bit of snow, but not too bad so far.

Today’s grooming covered nearly every trail with a single Husky pass with fresh classic tracks.  Trails in the fields, Woolsey Woods, Homeward and Outward Bound, and Moose Loop received multiple passes.  Conditions are a bit soft, but both classic skiers and skaters have been making good progress today with lots of smiles being seen.

Today is yet another busy practice day with the full slate of teams this afternoon.  Looking ahead most high school age skiers will be off to Lander on Friday for another Wyoming High School competition.

Finally to close, another great shot from Coach Kirsys from the recent Teton Ridge Classic.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.
