February 1st Grooming Report
Classic Masters!
The JHSC Master Nordic Skiing Class is back today, today’s technique being classic skiing. After days of clouds they are enjoying some sun and a classic skiing friendly temp of 19º as they check out the rolling terrain of Trail Creek.
Thanks to Coach Libby for sending in some images yesterday of the Teewinots enjoying some sunshine as well, and perhaps showing older skiers how to have a great time on snow!
The Husky was hard at work earlier today, setting classic tracks and skate lanes throughout our trail network. The recent mini-drought along with the slight bit of thawing we have experienced has firmed the conditions dramatically. The Husky was set for very aggressive tilling today; while you will find some voids in our hard working snow, all in all skiing conditions are pretty good. Most woods trails received a single skate/classic pass while the fields and Moose Loop received multiple passes with fresh classic tracks and skate lanes.
Snow returns to the forecast tonight with a snowy, if slightly warmer than ideal week ahead. Some Nordic areas aren’t as fortunate as us this El Niño winter. In northern Wisconsin where the American Birkie is scheduled to be held in a couple of weeks, they are facing sunshine and highs in the 40’s for the foreseeable future. Makes our slightly warm snow forecast look fantastic. The current forecast is calling for around 16 inches over the next 6 days.
Groomer’s choice for today is to enjoy some sun cruising around the fields.
