February 15th Grooming Report

Just the Beginning!

Approaching the ski cabin this morning, it was evident that an epic day was in the works.  The snow was deep enough to grab the ruler for documentation, 16 inches on the deck at the beginning of grooming; while additional measurements weren’t taken, that is the lightest snowfall area of Trail Creek and a couple more inches fell during grooming so the upper trail sections were most likely approaching two feet of fresh and pretty heavy powder, what a storm!

No early morning skaters even attempted skiing today and the resident elk herd wasn’t looking too happy either, but never fear, much progress was made today.  The Husky powered forth, compacting and winnowing thousands of tons of snow, resulting in reasonably good skiing by the end of the morning’s session.  Today’s grooming focused primarily on the  Moose Chase course, with two passes being made on the woods section and three passes through most of the field section of the course.  The snow was falling back in on top of the classic track a bit and things will obviously be a bit soft, but all in all skiing should be fun in the heavily shrouded woods as a big crowd of late morning skiers were attesting to.  By Saturday morning conditions will be tip top as the Moose Chase Race ventures onto the course, get your registration in!

Thanks to Coach Libby for sending in some great images of yesterday’ Teewinot practice!  One can only imagine how much fun today’s session will have with two feet of fresh powder.

Groomer’s choice is the heavily blanketed with fresh snow, Moose Chase Course.
