December 26th Grooming Report

A Week of Blue Skies!

The old cerulean blue is covering half of the world today at Trail Creek; abundant sunshine with cool temps and stable, hardworking snow are providing some reasonable skiing conditions.  One of our locals out skiing today noted that this would be a great Nordic skiing day in Vermont and that it’s really pretty good here as well.  While the snow fairies have been a bit hard to find lately, the good news is that the most recent 8-14 day plots show us moving into the above normal precip range, keep your fingers crossed!

Today’s Ginzu grooming was a best line pass on most woods trails with double passes around the field.  Of note today is that the section near the old pass road received initial passes for the year.  While still pretty rough, it will come along nicely in the days to come and will give our skiers other terrain options.  Also today an ice jam formed under the bridge in the Black Hole area making for a fascinating sight; use caution as the crossing will be quite slippery.

Looking ahead the Nordic Senior Nationals begin in Soldier Hollow next weekend.  In this instance Senior doesn’t mean retirement age, but mostly U23’s although some of our older skiers will be participating as well; if you’re looking for a fun adventure, this could be it.  Grooming will continue on a variable schedule depending on snow and might switch to afternoons later in the week depending on the weather.

Groomer’s choice for today is to check out the newly groomed terrain in the Old Pass Area.
