December 10th Grooming Report

Two of Our Neighbors!

If you’ve been watching the critters around the valley for years this is probably old hat for you, but if not, in recent years we’ve had two different species of deer hanging out on our trails.  While the mule deer (note the big, mule like ears) has been around in the early season for as long as anyone can remember, the whitetail deer (note the erect white tail) seems to be a somewhat newer immigrant.  They both tend to move on to less snowy environs when the snow gets deeper, but in the past few weeks we’ve had several sets of both mule deer and whitetail does and fawns, and one rather impressive mule deer buck; one of the things that you might be lucky enough to spot on your next Nordic outing.

If your next Nordic outing is to Trail Creek today, you’ll find lots of good skiing.  Today’s grooming was a Pisten Bully best line skate set of all recently groomed trails (pretty much everything except for East Fields and Mug’s Meadow) with a reworking of classic tracks on Armin’s and the close field.  As of 11:30 AM the temperature was -3ºC/27ºF under mostly cloudy skies with a moderate wind.  If your plan is for classic skiing you might want to get here sooner than later as there is substantial drifting occurring in the fields, but all in all skaters or early season classic skiers will find plenty of good skiing.

Groomer’s choice for today is Armin’s.
