17/18 Freeride Program Report

2017-2018 Freeride Program Highlights      

  • The JHSC Freeride Program represents 65 athletes (42 skiers & 23 snowboarders)

  • Six athletes qualified for USASA Nationals, one of which competed in three disciplines.

  • Five athletes qualified for the IFSA North American Championships and all five competed

  • Two Under 12 athletes chose to go to the IFSA NorAm’s.

3 Park City Training Camps,

2 Weekends of Targhee training,

4 USASA competition trips,

9 IFSA competition trips

Regional Highlights

  • After a two-year hiatus JHSC revived the JH junior IFSA Regional Competition at JHMR.  We ran 90 athletes from CO, UT, MT, ID, NM, & WY.

  • Hosted a USASA Level 100 Coaches clinic at JHMR for three JHSC FRP Coaches (Chris Mayers, Brian Burger, & Kevin Dehm) and few other regional coaches from other programs.  

  • Two Coaches completed a USSA 100 clinic (Kevin Bradford & Rob LaPier)

  • JHSC FRP hosted three Wednesday Night Lights Rail Jam events with 125 participants at Snow King.  This was the 11th season of the rail jam series.

  • Jake Johnson - Slopestyle: Qualified 16 of 227, & Rail Jam: Qualified 39 of 288 and 1st in the Intermountain Region

  • Neo Emery -  Halfpipe: Qualified 85 of 87, & Boarder X: Qualified 165 of 186

  • Caleb Kern - Slopestyle: Qualified 20 of 114

  • Ellis Swain - Slopestyle: Qualified 74 of 105, Rail Jam: Qualified 89 of 108

  • Bennett Balough - Slopestyle: Qualified 143 of 192

  • Ronin Suclla Zell - Qualified 6 of 31, finished 5th

  • Rye Web - Qualified 13 of 31, finished 7th

  • Ellie Armstrong - Qualified 26 of 108, finished 15th

  • Steven Bailey - Qualified 10 of 40, finished 6th

  • Jack Kilmain - Attended, ranked 32 of 126, finished 9th

  • Finn Varga - Attended, ranked 4 of 12, finished 4th

World Junior Freeride Championships - Kappl, Austria

  • Will Mercer is the first ever athlete in the JHSC Freeride Program to compete at this International event.   Will's trip was full of unforgettable memories and he finished in 12th place.
