Andy Chambers has been an integral part of Snow King Mountain ski area and the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club for more than five decades. A Jackson native, his competitive career began at age 4 with participation in the JHSC, which he continues actively to support and develop. In 1976, he was the Wyoming State High School Slalom and Overall Champion and the runner up in 1979 for Wyoming State High School Athlete of the Year. As a junior racer, Andy was a member of multiple Intermountain Division Junior National and Junior Olympic ski teams, notably as the overall Junior Olympic Champion in 1977. He earned a spot on the US Ski Team’s Men’s Downhill team in 1979, which he held until 1987; among many downhill medals, he was the Overall National Champion in 1983 and won a World Championship with the 1985 team. When it comes to ski racing, Andy is truly our “hometown hero.” He excelled on the international scene, securing the Second Overall Europa Cup Downhill Title and Fourth Overall Europa Cup Title in 1983. After retiring from the US Ski Team, Andy returned to Jackson, and in 1993, he assumed the position of Executive Director of the Jackson Hole Ski Club, which he held until 1996. He conceived and developed the Next Generation Skiers Program (NGS), which currently trains approximately 70 young athletes each season.
