Competitor & Innovator
Nancy Bell Johnstone has lived and worked in Jackson for the past 26 years. When she moved from Stowe, Vermont, where she ski raced from childhood, she switched to Nordic skiing and found her niche as a biathlete. She competed on the US Biathlon Team in the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France, and in numerous World Championships and World Cup events across Europe. Nancy served in the Army National Guard for eight years and sat on the Board of Directors for the US Olympic Committee for ten years. Once she moved to Jackson, she was hired to be the Nordic Director and Head Coach for the Jackson Hole Ski Club, where she stayed until she and her husband, Hans, built The Alpine House, which she has run for the past 24 years. Notable among her many ski accomplishments, she is a North American Ski Mountaineering Champion and is the oldest known woman to ski the Grand Teton.
