Dallas Dunlap Robertson

Class:

Competitor, Pioneer & Innovator

Once Dallas Dunlap joined the Little Waxers, she never looked back. An Eastern transplant to Montana and then to Jackson, Wyoming, 8-year old Dallas discovered the art and sport of downhill skiing with fellow female students at Jackson Elementary. For them, skiing would remain a source of freedom and experiences unusual for girls their age. In the 1950s and 60s they traveled together to compete throughout the US and Canada. As a sophomore on the Jackson Hole Alpine Ski Team, Dallas was invited to train with the US Ski Team, qualifying as an alternate to the 1968 Grenoble Olympics. She competed in downhill, GS, and slalom, but downhill was her true love. She also competed in track and field in high school – the only girl to compete with the boys, setting numerous records in the pre-Title 9 era. Dallas enjoyed making ice cream and jerky at the family business, Jackson Cold Storage. After she returned to Jackson from the University of Wyoming, she met her husband, Steve Reed Robertson, with whom she raised three sons, Heath, Walt, and Neal.  Dallas and Steve ran a successful family outfitting operation and ranch. Dallas was an accomplished outdoor clothing designer and seamstress; she owned and operated Mountain Designs, an outdoor clothing company. When their three boys reached high-school age, she and Steve bought the ski-in, ski-out Dunlap House on Pine Drive adjacent to Snow King, where for the rest of her life, she supported her boys in their own athletic pursuits and enjoyed racing around the mountain with them.
