Sun Pillar!

An interesting phenomenon was occurring at Trail Creek this morning; a sun pillar was floating in the sky above the Close Field.  In a nutshell it is a beam of light formed by ice crystals in the air; you can read a lengthy discussion about these fascinating atmospheric anomalies on this Wikipedia page.

In addition to possibly spotting a sun pillar, you can have some great Nordic skiing if you come on out to Trail Creek today.  Today’s grooming was a thorough reworking of the Close Field with fresh classic tracks. This took care of most of the tracks from yesterday’s busy practice schedule.  Trails in the woods were untouched, but should still ski nicely from yesterday’s grooming.  We are continuing in snow preservation mode with light grooming schedules.

JHSC racers are travelling to Heber City, Utah to compete in the first Junior National Qualifier on Friday and Saturday.  Results will be posted at Muddy Dog Sports and there is much more information on the event page.

Groomer’s choice for today is chasing sun pillars in the Close Field.
