March 9th Grooming Report

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!
When grooming wrapped up Saturday night, most of the trails we’ve been grooming lately were in pretty good shape. Thirty six hours of warm temperatures, especially with the nighttime lows not even dropping below 40º last night, have had a pretty significant impact on our trails.
Starting with the good however, trails in the upper woods like Armin’s, Moose Loop, and the National Forest Trails are still pretty nice and skiing well. What is bad is that there are numerous patches of ice popping up in the Close Field. If we’re looking for ugly, the trails that have been closed for a while like East Fields and Faceplant are about there with numerous melted out areas.
While it still works to ski from the cabin out to the better trails, perhaps a better strategy for today would be to access trails from the end of the Old Pass Road. Today’s grooming did make several passes around the Close Field as well as the Nordic X course. The Husky then headed out to cover most trails except for Woolsey Woods in the woods area. Homeward and Outward Bound do have some issues, but are mostly skiable, and again once you make it to the far woods, conditions are nice.
JHSC programs are scheduled to continue for two weeks, this week’s schedule is below. Major events this upcoming weekend include the Western Club Championships near Victor, Idaho and The Drift 100 near Pinedale, Wyoming. Racing has begun at Junior nationals in Cable, Wisconsin, results and web cams are available at the event website.

Groomer’s choice for today is Armin’s.

February 26th Grooming Report

Snowy Cabin Edition!
While the season is far from over, the 2025–2026 Nordic season has been nothing if not bizarre. Although precipitation has remained moderate, we’ve seen an unusual number of warm days for this corner of Wyoming. Despite the late start, we have been blessed with many fantastic days on the snow—and we’re hopeful that streak continues deep into spring.

We’ve posted comparison photos from early and late February; while early February mirrored the record lows of 2018, we have made measurable progress since then. It’s always fascinating to see the year-to-year variance, and we’re still holding out hope for a late-season "about-face" that could rival the legendary snow totals of 2019.

Today’s Husky grooming covered most trails except for Cle’s Climb, Faceplant, and Mug’s Meadow. Most of the woods received a single skate/classic pass while the fields received multiple passes. Initial grooming in the woods came up a bit chunky after recent days of snow and rain, but should ski nicely. By the time grooming moved to the fields, the snow was warm enough to lay down into some lovely corduroy.

Groomer’s choice for today is to enjoy the fantastic sunshine and warm temps in the East Fields.
