June Alpine Newsletter

Copper Camp Recap:

The Alpine Team took 12 athletes and 3 coaches to Copper, Colorado, for a 7 day GS & SL training camp May 14-21. The snow conditions were nearly perfect, and a lot of progress was made! With the early training lanes it gave us time for quality dryland workouts and plenty of study hall time. Thank you Copper Mountain for providing amazing training in May!

Mt. Hood, Oregon, Summer Camps:

The Alpine Program is offering a few options for training this summer in Mt. Hood! Camps 1 & 2 will be geared more towards the younger athletes, and Camps 3 & 4 for U14 to FIS. Mt.Hood is an excellent avenue to get on snow during the summer months! It is important to keep athletes progressing, getting miles under their belt and also to give them a chance to demo next year's equipment. Most top ski brands have a full demo fleet for athletes to try for free! Hood is always a ton of fun; sign up while there are still spots available!

-Years as a JHSC athlete?

12 years

-What has JHSC/ski racing taught you that will help you even after ski racing?

JHSC has taught me how to be somebody responsible, organized, committed, and disciplined. Ski racing is one of the hardest sports a high school student can do. From the year-round commitment to the busy season, it has taught me to be efficient with my time, and most importantly, it has taught me to be patient with my goals and that Rome wasn't built in a day.

-Favorite memory as a JHSC athlete?

Playing speedball on the baseball field in the snow during summer dryland

-Where is your favorite place to ski?

My favorite place to ski is definitely at Teton Village, nothing better than your home mountain!

I'm very excited to continue my alpine ski racing career next year as a postgraduate athlete! I will be racing for the Park City Ski & Snowboard PG Team.

I have a love-hate relationship with slalom, but right now I am surprised to say it is my favorite discipline.

-What accomplishment are you most proud of during your JHSC years?

My biggest accomplishment at JHSC was always managing to place 31st, one out of the flip every single race my first years of FIS.

Outside of skiing I like to run track & field and surf!

It's definitely apples! From apple juice, apple sauce, or a crispy red apple nothing can get better!
