Summer Training Wraps Up

Team snacking on top of Mt. Taylor

This summer has been one for the books!  JHSC Nordic athletes just wrapped up the summer very strongly by training hard and staying committed to coming to practice through the dog days.  Looking back at all the fun activities we had throughout the last three months we are really proud of all the athletes and stoked for all the adventures we have had.  Starting in late May with Bend Camp through Labor Day Weekend we have trained 5 days/week by running, rollerskiing, biking, lifting weights, stretching, bounding, playing games, and all sorts of other activities that make us strong.  For our Friday adventures we climbed mountains like Jackson Peak, Mt. Taylor, and Rendezvous Peak. We also ran the crest from Glory, from Teton Pass to the Tram, around Phelps from Granite, and all around Snow King.  Our final adventure to cap off the summer was a double pole classic rollerski all the way from Jenny Lake to Hoback Junction, over 30 miles!  It is incredible to see the progression of all these athletes from last year to this year and we are so stoked about their progress!

In addition to all the fun adventures that take the headlines, we did a huge number of less glamorous workouts that constitute the building blocks of the base we are trying to build in the summer.  The technique-focused rollerskis, strength sessions, distance runs, runs with poles up snow king, interval sessions, among others all are done for a purpose to give athletes the skills they need to grow and excel in ski sport.  We like to recognize the athletes that attend the most sessions out of the summer because we know that the best way to get better at skiing is to show up at practice, it is not rocket science!  The best skiers stay focused and work hard all summer long to help achieve their goals.  This summer Sam Hutchinson has been an absolute rock at practice, showing up to almost every single practice all summer long.  He has already attended 90 sessions this training year, over 30 more than the next highest total!  Zach Baker has come to 48 sessions so far this year, which is the most of the Prep Team athletes.  Atten Aronowitz attended the most sessions for Junior athletes, coming to 17 practices over the course of the summer!  Congrats to all of the athletes with the best attendance this summer!
