ALPINE NEWSLETTER
The alpine athletes have been hard at work with dryland training and summer skiing at Mt. Hood! Head U12 Coach Turner Brett, just finished up an amazing week of skiing with a group of U10/U12 athletes! They skied for 6 days, focusing half the time on slalom and half on GS skills make for a very productive training! On the day off they went rafting on the Deschutes River which was a super fun day for coaches, athletes and parents! Each day they explored the area during dryland with hikes to a lake & waterfall and even took a trip into Portland to the Oregon Museum of Science Institute where there was a neat Jurassic Park Lego exhibit!
In July the older athletes will head to Hood for a 10-day camp! Several athletes qualified for Western Region Camps held at Mt. Hood and Chile this summer. These invite only camps are qualification based and are an excellent opportunity for athletes from our club to work with other coaches and athletes from the region and the nation! This creates great pace for our high level athletes when we have a smaller team at home.
Dryland:
During the spring and summer months the U16 and FIS age athletes train 5 days a week to prepare themselves for the season ahead. Head FIS Coach and Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach Marissa Haase has them working on a well-balanced program! Ine afternoon in June a group hiked up Snow King but on the way down a group went to lane 4 (slalom lane) and lane 7 (GS lane) to pick up any trash such as broken gates. To our surprise we found less trash then expected, but a few treasures were discovered such as an umbrella from 20 years ago and many bamboo poles in good condition!
