Jonathan “Jonny” Souter grew up in central Vermont, where he developed a passion for skiing, kayaking, and outdoor adventure at a young age. He raced competitively with the Suicide Six Ski Team through high school before continuing his ski racing career at Colorado College, where he served as team captain. He also competed internationally with the U.S. Canoe and Kayak Team.

After moving to Jackson, Jon spent 12 years coaching with Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club, working with athletes across all levels of the Alpine program, from the youngest athletes through FIS and Masters, and serving as both Head U14 Coach and Head J4/5 Coach. In 2012, he was named Intermountain Division Coach of the Year.

In addition to coaching, Jon has spent the past decade teaching with both Teton Science Schools and Teton County School District, where he developed a strong passion for teaching, mentorship, and helping students grow both academically and personally.

Jon’s background also includes work with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), managing the Jackson Hole Kayak School, and serving on the boards of the Jackson Hole Kayak Club and Snake River Fund. He is excited to return to JHSC as Alpine Program Director and help support athletes, coaches, and families as they grow through sport.

Jon lives in Jackson with his wife and two children, who are both active in JHSC programs. When not coaching, he can usually be found skiing, biking, paddling, or exploring the mountains and rivers with his family.
