Bend Camp Recap!

Making our way up Broken Top

JHSC boys on the crust

JHSC Nordic just returned from another incredible week in Bend, OR where we had a fantastic time training and gelling with the team.  Mt. Bachelor had immaculate grooming as usual and the conditions were great.  Despite more precipitation than years past we still had some great days in fresh snow, some rainy ski days, and a handfull of sunshine!  The US Ski Team was on site training and as always it was great to share the trails with the American superstars like Gus Schumacher and Jessie Diggins!   We ended up going on many great skis, trail runs, played a ton of games in the parks, did some strength, swam in the river, and of course made it out to the ocean.  Pacific City is the highlight of the camp every year and this year was no exception.  Despite some large waves that prevented us from renting surfboards, we had a ton of fun hanging out on the beach in the dunes!

The US Ski Team was incredibly welcoming to all of our athletes and were very nice to the people around the trails, and one JHSC athlete had a great interaction with the USST.  Olin Hugo decided to do his "Combat the Silence" school project, where each student has to choose an issue they are passionate about and raise funds for a nonprofit, on climate change on behalf of Protect Our Winters.  As part of his fundraiser and school project, Olin contacted Gus Schumacher, who is a POW ambassador, about climate change and his advocacy work.  Gus was extremely generous with his time and gave Olin a great interview and Olin got to meet one of his heroes!  Nice work Olin!  You can support his fundraiser for POW HERE!

Summer Training Starts

Our traditional start of the training season has arrived!  As soon as we arrive back from Bend Camp we start to get back into the swing of things training with the whole team.  We have kicked off the 2025-2026 winter training season and just in the first few weeks we have already gone both classic and skate rollerskiing, done intervals and lactate testing, trail runs, strength in the park, and running technique work on the track!  The seniors have graduated and now we are bringing in the new upcoming Prep Team athletes up through the program.  We are training 4 days/week until school gets out in mid-June then we will go full gas with summer training after then!

Lucas Wilmot Named to US Ski Team Development Team!

Lucas Wilmot was recently named to the US Ski Team Development Team a few weeks ago!  He is the first JHSC Nordic skier in decades to be named to the national team, which is a huge honor for both him and the Club!  Along with this honor comes some cool opportunities to train with the national team and access to coaching resources such as nutritionists, PTs, sports psychologists, etc at the highest level.  Lucas is one of the fastest skiers in the country and we are so proud of seeing him earn this opportunity.  The JH News and Guide wrote an awesome article with some historical information, which you can read HERE.
