December 18th Grooming Report
Squirrels Beware!
Coach Rob on his nearly daily tour around our trails managed to capture a great shot of a pine marten on the upper section of Moose Loop yesterday, amazing shot, thanks so much Coach Rob! Keep your eyes peeled on your next Trail Creek Nordic adventure and you might spot it too. The bigger tracks below are the distinctive pine marten tracks, the smaller tracks are those of a squirrel that might have been in trouble…
You’ll have no trouble finding a great Nordic ski today at Trail Creek. While the morning started warm and gray, the sun is starting to peek through and the warm conditions have allowed the snow to settle nicely. The Husky was on call again today and journeyed through pretty much every trail except Faceplant and the East Fields. For the first time this year Mug’s Meadow was groomed and a few more classic tracks were dropped onto the trails. We’re probably getting close on the East Fields although this morning’s measurement showed a little over 20 inches of snow on this driest part of our trail network (around 30 inches at the top of Homesite and by Sawmill, the wettest areas) with 24 inches being the tradition.
The snow has firmed and groomed nicely and is resulting in lots of smiles from the skiers out so far today. Today will be a busy practice day with Prep/Comp, Juniors, and Devos all on snow. Looking ahead sunny and warm conditions are forecast if the inversion doesn’t set up again with snow over the weekend.
Groomer’s choice for today is Animal Farm with first of the year classic tracks.
