Sean Nurse Memorial Race – Snow King
The Sean Nurse Memorial honors the life of Sean Nurse was born and raised here in Jackson, WY, with strong family ties to skiing and our community ski resorts. Sean was a high performing multi-sport athlete who enjoyed all the challenges that sport can provide. His friends say that he was outgoing, charismatic, and always easy to talk to. Sean excelled both on the field of sport and in the classroom, he carried a 4.0 and was headed to ski race for Dartmouth College. This race celebrates his life and honors his spirit, a talented alpine skier who died by suicide in 1990.
Starting in 2023, Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard has hosted several mental health
organizations throughout the week of the race to share information on mental health and suicide prevention.
During this year’s event 170 kids from around the intermountain west gathered to kick off the season with 2 slaloms and 2 giant slaloms at Snow King! Several JHSC athletes made an appearance on the podium. Including Gus Clausen, Oliver Sanders, Taryn Moe and Chuck Lighthart! Congratulations to all the athletes for a getting the season started on home soil!
Caroline Classic
The Caroline Classic has been the 1st club series race of the season for many years! The club series has a calendar of 5 races throughout Teton Valley for our upcoming generation of racers! The field mostly consists of U8-U12 kiddos that are eager and excited to jump into the course! The 5 events are held at Snow King, JHMR, Grand Targhee and White Pine! We are happy to put on such a fun series for our littlest crew!
The Caroline Classic is named after a daughter of a long-time ski club family who passed away in a tragic accident at a young age. We are proud to honor her annually at the first race of the year!
JHSC has many, many athletes on the podium and skiing fast! Great job to all and we look forward to the next club series at Targhee January 25!
Wild West Elite FIS
After the New Year we had our first race of 2025 on Jan 3-6! Conditions were questionable the morning of the 3rd with 40 degree temps and rain. With temps dropping in the days after it created a great surface for the last couple days!
Impressive skiing was seen from athletes all over the west, including many of our own! JHSC FIS Team is skiing very well and is a crew to watch for in the coming months! Mattias Wilson, Atticus Sanders, Gus Clausen, Oliver Sanders, Jaden D’Amours, Lucy Wirth and Taylor Moe all had impressive results if not runs during the series!
Races to come in January!
U14 Tech Qualifier – Snow King
We are happy to host a home qualifier for our U14 team Jan 10-12 at our awesome little mountain! Outside teams love to come to Snow King for many reasons! Conditions, accessibility, reasonable ticket prices, and Sean Hines runs a very smooth and efficient race! Good Luck to all the U14 athletes this weekend! The conditions are looking perfect after a few days of cold temps!
Wes Barron Super G – JHMR
January 24-27 we head to JHMR for our annual Wes Barron SG race series for U14/U16 athletes for the intermountain west! Teams, athletes and families love to come to the WB race at JHMR! JHMR does a fantastic job hosting this type of event and athletes love skiing there! It is also a perfect track from a developmental stand point! It has a lot of aspects to the course that require good inspection but with a more mellow feel. This race is before any of the U14 & U16’s speed qualifier which helps dramatically with confidence! Good luck to all the kids!
