Triple Crown Scoring Rules & Regulations:
Triple Crown Competitors must compete in the Moose Chase, Town Downhill & Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle.
During the race series, competitors will try to accrue the lowest possible number of points. Percentage points are calculated by the difference in time between the event winner and the Triple Crown competitor. Triple Crown scoring will be based on percentage of the time back from the winning time.
Example: If the Town Downhill winner finished with a time of 60 seconds (1.00.00) and a Triple Crown competitor finished with a time of 65 seconds (1.05.00), they would receive 8.3 percentage points towards their overall score.
65 seconds - 60 seconds + 5 seconds
100 x 5 seconds = 8.3% points
If the winner is a Triple Crown competitor, they will receive zero points for that event.
Since the Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle is a five leg event and its points will be calculated slightly differently. Percentage points for each leg of the PPP will be calculated independently by the system described above. Then, the percentages will be combined and divided by five. Example:
Alpine 5% + Run 5% + Nordic 15% + Bike 10% + Boat 8% = 43%
43% = 8.6%
Competitors will receive percentage points for the Moose Chase, Town Downhill and Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle, therefore all events are weighed equally.
Preference is given to individuals who compete at the top tier of competition:
Moose Chase 30K – Town Downhill Pro Division – PPP Racing Individual
Competitors competing in other divisions will have additional percentage points added to their overall score:
Moose Chase 15K: 10% – Town Downhill Amateur Class: 5% – PPP Master’s Division, see below
If a competitor chooses to race in the Master’s Division of the Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle, their points will be calculated from the fastest time of that gender in the Master’s division. There are no start or finish points.
Male & female competitor with the lowest overall points wins King & Queen of the Crown!
