Mark Engel

Head FIS Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach

I grew up in Truckee, California, where my dad taught me how to ski at a young age. From my very first memories, I can remember wanting to ski until the resort closed, and when I discovered racing, I was hooked. All I wanted to do was ski race and ski powder, and that's what I got to do for most of my life! I raced at Sugar Bowl Ski Team until I made the Head FIS CoachU.S. team at age 19. Then I raced the next 7 years with the US team, with a 1 year gap in 2013-2014, when I competed with the University of Utah. I went back to the University of Utah in 2018-2019, and retired at the end of the season. Now that my career as an athlete is over, I've realized that the most valuable part of it all for me was traveling the world and meeting and making friends from many different places! I'm excited to continue making connections in the ski racing world as a coach. I also love to play music, and I can play guitar, violin, bass, and a little bit of drums and piano!
