Lance's passion for snowboarding began with a skateboard in Boise, ID. As a young one he competed in skateboard contests before trying snowboarding at night at Bogus Basin, ID.
At age 11, Lance moved to Wyoming in 1998. His parents had a place outside of town on a hillside where he could build jumps in his backyard. Soon thereafter he began snowboarding at Snow King, and the following year his parents moved into town at the foot of the local ski hill.
Lance began snowboarding weeknights at Snow King and after a couple seasons made his way to Teton Village. He was one of the first generations of riders on the JHSC Snowboard team at age 14.
Lance competed in the USSA circuit as a teenager, and coached snowboarding at Mount Hood in the summers, eventually earning sponsorships from Bonfire, K2, Dragon and Thirty Two. For five years he rode for K2 exclusively as a member of their International "A" team of paid riders, traveling the world, exploring the backcountry, and filming snowboarding around Jackson.
In 2000 Lance founded Illuminati Snowboards, basing the company out of Jackson Hole. As founder and president he was able to sell boards online and continue to explore the Tetons while still riding for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and other supporting sponsors. In 2005 Lance co-founded and published the first two issues of Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine, which still exists today!
In his early thirties, Lance took some time away from snowboarding to study Yoga, Holotropic Breathwork, and Transpersonal Psychology. He earned a credential in Transpersonal Coaching from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.
Lance acknowledges that many doors were opened for him through his passion for snowboarding and he is eager to give back to snowboarding community through coaching youth at the Freeride Program.
